2010-01-01 Arthur iced in at Maddens Marina
Read MoreMade a quick assessment that it was not advisable to try and breakout from the ice. Even with engines running it was noticeable that there was little impact on the surrounding ice. And where the ice did melt .... it quickly re-froze!
BTW, if you view this photo in one of the larger modes (x3 or Original size) you can observe the double layer of ice which bestrides the marina. What I think happened is that the initial layer of ice was subsequently covered with an inflow of extra water from the river during the high winds of the preceding day(s) and that this layer of water froze on top of the existing layer of ice. Note also the various stones, presumably thrown onto the ice by boat-owners or visitors to the marina which were attempts to see whether the ice could be pierced!!!
