• circa 13:00...Our Garmin 750s in 'combo' mode. Chartplotter display is on extreme left. The pink line denotes our pre-planned route; the boat icon reflects our actual position at that time.

The centre display denotes the information from the radar unit. The base of the white line denotes the current position of the boat. The concentric rings represent .5nm sweeps around the boat. Yellow/white dots, if present on the blue surface, would denote something that is 'reflecting' the radar signal that is being transmitted. Typically this would be a boat or perhaps a marker/buoy or even land or rocks.

The navigation data on the right panel is fairly self-explanatory. Of particular comfort was the 'Dist to Dest' and 'Arrival' data.

 • 14:03... L.E. James Joyce. Sure glad that we didn't encounter her whilst in the midst of the thick fog a couple of hours earlier in the passage! On second thoughts...our radar would have picked her up and certainly her radar would have located us. Still, happier to encounter her here where she can be clearly seen in all her majesty!
