  • A Panorama shot taken just before Arthur set sail from Bantry Harbour. And if you look carefully you will notice that Arthur's bow (guardrail) has been somewhat mangled by the Panorama software ... :-( I think the problem might not have arisen if I was more careful re the sequence of photos that I took from which the Panorama was subsequently created... :-(

    DAY 35 - Monday, 27th July, 2015

We had a quiet day in Lawrence Cove Marina on Sunday after our return from Bantry Habour. We have now been on the water for 5 weeks... :-) One of the most enjoyable aspects of leisure boating is meeting other people. And this trip has proved to be no different. Our neighbours (literally rafted onto Arthur for the previous evening) are about to depart Lawrence Cove on their vessel 'Judith'.

  • 'Judith' and crew depart Lawrence Cove Marina.

  • And this is a screen-dump of the weather forecast for Bantry Bay (courtesy of Windfinder Pro) covering the period Sat 25th July - Tues 28th July and shows very clearly why we were glad to be back in Lawrence Cove by Sat. Winds were forecast at circa 31kts with gusts of 40kts for Monday. It was nice to be berthed in the shelter of Lawrence Cove Marina!

Mary chats with Rachel Harrington, daughter-in-law of Lawrence Cove Marina doyenne Phil Harrington. Rachel oversees the day-to-day operation of the marina.

    DAY 37 - Wednesday, 29th July, 2015

circa 16:51... John Murphy, local boat mechanic extraordinaire. If anyone can, John Murphy can! Here he can be seen servicing Arthur's port engine. A problem had developed with the lift-pump. John effected a temporary solution with a recommendation that the lift-pump be replaced. When I enquired as to the durability of his repair he suggested that it might last for five years but he still recommended replacing it ASAP. The right man in the right place at the right time!

  • Tim (left) and Paddy (right) with Mary on the main jetty. By extraordinary coincidence both were present, with their respective boats and families, last year when Arthur suffered damage on the return passage from Schull. On that occasion we encountered rough weather at Mizen Head which caused our radar arch to crash. John Murphy worked incredible miracles with ropes to re-shape the radar arch and Paddy and Tim provided assistance.

07:35... Shoo Shoo, a 20m x 4m yacht, departs Lawrence Cove Marina just as the local ferry commences its passage to the mainland.

  • Arthur on an inside berth on the main jetty at Lawrence Cove Marina. We swopped with Shoo Shoo which needed to be on the outer side of the main jetty to enable a smooth departure in the early morning. Have you ever seen such clear water?

  • It's interesting to note how the banner on the gangway is lighter in colour than its reflection in the water!<br />

In a mere 15 mins from the time that this photo was taken Arthur will commence the return passage to Dingle and thence onto Kilrush, Limerick and back to Lough Derg. Check it out in the fifth and final part of Arthur's Coast Cruise 2015.
