More bridge repairs... Is this the year of bridge repairs?

  • Monday, 25h July, 2011. At last...we are on our way. We have been anticipating this day for weeks....the start of Arthur's Summer Coastal Cruising Odyssey for 2011.<br /> <br /> We travelled to Portumna on Monday at midday and unpacked the car in preparation for the 15.00 hr bridge opening.
  • We made our way down Lough Derg. A dull day.
  • Leaving Parker Point behind us we head towards Killaloe where we will overnight at Harbour Village Marina...tnx for the hospitality TnT! We arrive just after 6pm. After dinner onboard we catch up on the newspapers and then head for a good night's sleep! We have agreed a 09.15 start with Rapport. We hope to be in Kilrush the following day.
  • Tuesday, 26th July...circa 09.15 hrs. After spending a comfortable night at Harbour Village Marina we prepare for our passage to Kilrush.It will be a long day...a passage that will amount to approx. 9hrs!
  • We set-up our newly acquired radar arch support .... total cost €9.54 courtesy of Lynch's, Portumna. In previous years we let our radar arch rest on the seats but unfortunately it caused us to stoop in a very uncomfortable manner every time that we needed to pass under the arch. Our new solution made it easier for us to pass through without crippling our backs! It was about to get its inaugural use!

  • Not sure what is going on here...presumably restoration/maintenance work of some kind. Shades of Portumna bridge!

  • Oh! Jetty on the south side of the sluice gate is no more! No more codes to be entered. Simply contact.Ardnacrusha before you approach the gate and let them know when you have passed through!

  • A little sun has emerged...it always makes for more pleasant cruising conditions.
