Well, what else do you do when inside a lock?

  • Wonder how many of todays young boaters (or indeed young people in general) know what the symbols represent?
  • Holding the stern rope whilst inside the lock I was struck by the flow of water at back of lock...

  • De Iron Lung just below the lower lockgate at Tarmonbarry!
  • The reeds caught my eye...
  • You look at a scene like this and notice the trees and wonder about the vision and foresight of whoever planted them all those years ago!
  • Circa 4pm and we are passing through Lanesboro. Next stop Wineport Lodge!
  • Looks quite deserted this time. Unfortunately we were not stopping!

  • Circa 16.10. Just passed Lanesboro and heading onto Lough Ree. I just liked this scene.
  • Circa 18.30..."Arthur" arrives at Winpeort Lodge. We were booked in for dinner at20.00hrs...and not just any old dinner. This was a 'Champagne Dinner for 2'. And what an evening. A bottle (not a half-bottle!) of G.H. Mumm was produced as soon as we were seated. And that was just to start...what followed was a fabulous food fest from the a la carte menu. No restrictions. It was a fantstaic meal that we both enjoyed. Food, wine (yes we also had a bottle of Hunky Dory Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, with our food) and service were all excellent. And for Mary there was the addded bonus of a rare night free from cooking duties! We will be back, paying our own way the next time, and looking forward to it. So take a bow Wineport Lodge....and sincere thanks to IWN for organising the Wineport Winning Shot competition.
