  • Dromod
  • Unlike a week ago when we stopped overnight and the harbour was empty on this occasion it was full! We attempted to tie up at the pump-out berth just inside the harbour. Unfortunately the wind had blown up quite significantly and we had difficulty in getting alongside the harbour wall.
  • Take a bow Aoibheann of 'Tamarind'. She spotted our arrival and observed our difficulty and came rushing to our assistance.
  • Aoibheann secured the bow rope to a cleat and then hauled us alongside the berth with the stern rope. It was some wind! Thanks Aoibheann...and I hope that I got the name right!
  • "Arthur" securely moored in Dromod.
  • I had earlier made contact with 'Sandun' of IWAI Forum fame and invited him to join us for a 'cuppa' on his way home. Despite having been working all day he agreed and duly arrived circa 10pm. Not quite what I had expected...in my mind I had conjured up an image of a 75+yr old seadog with a whitish/greyish beard! How wrong can you be! Duncan is a teetotaller and does not drink coffee either...so we treated him to a pot of tea-leaf tea for which "Arthur" has a well-established reputation! And of course a mandatory photo....
  • We chatted away until the wee hours when Duncan took leave of us. Unfortunately as we walked to the carpark he discovered that he had to return to Carrick before driving home... :-( He arrived home circa 03.00hrs and then for relaxation logged on to the IWAI Forum and posted a message!
  • Wednesday, 6th July, 2011...circa 11.30. Dromod Harbour.
  • Some boats have already left.
  • I took a quick walk up to the village to get the newspapers and took this photo of Cox's Restaurant which is still operating. Did not get a chance to sample the food/drink. Next time!
  • And Harkin's Bistro at the harbour is also still open for business.

  • We left Dromod circa 12.30 hoping to get through the Lifting Bridge and Lock at Rooskey before lunch. We rang Tom McGarry who cycled up to the lifting bridge to let us through and then beat us back to the lock! We went through the lock just before 1pm. Thanks Tom.
  • On our way to Tarmonbarry we bumped into (well not quite literally speaking!) Stephen & Marguerite Maher on their beloved Gerda.. We stopped in mid-channel for a brief chat.
  • Stephen & Marguerite Maher (Gerda)
  • We passed through the lifting bridge circa 14.00 and moored up temporarily just above the lock. And lo and behold ...who did we encounter but Rich of Cool Blue! Rich is pictured here with his father.
