  • Wow! What a plush looking water tap on the waiting jetty!
  • The lock-keeper's house. The only one on the system that is used for residential purposes.
  • View of Jamestown Canal from Albert Lock.
  • Looking back downstream from Albert Lock.
  • Michael Bourke. Lock-keeper at Albert Lock....a nice person...or so he claims! See next photo for the official declaration!
  • I asked him why he made the public declaration on the back of his car...'because everyone kept telling him that I was a nice person'!
  • And of course it also applies to his son! And even though it does not state it I can testify that it also applies to his wife! Very nice people indeed!
  • Plaque on the wall inside the lock...
  • Waiting to exit the lock and navigate the Jamestown Canal...
  • Private marina adjacent to the Jamestown Canal...
  • The marina is as long as the Jamestown canal...According to a reliable source it accommodates approx. 250 boats!
  • Still navigating the Jamestown canal...
  • Plaque on the side of the canal commemorating the construction of the Jamestown Canal... And the plaque was only installed a couple of days before our passage through the canal... :-(
  • Approaching Ardanaffrin Bridge at the end of the canal.
  • Quayside at Ardanaffrn Bridge...
  • Jamestown. Turn right when you exit Jamestown Canal and a very short cruise brings you to Jamestown. We did not tie up here and simply turned around and headed for Carrick-on-Shannon...
  • Another section of navigation that reminded me of the River Suck.
  • It was a relatively short hop to Carrick-on-Shannon...
  • Butler's Marina can be seen in the distance on the left of the photo.
  • We tied up on the floating jetty in front of the Landmark Hotel. This is a very popular location and a free berth might not always be available! Also, note that there is only a small number of shorepower blocks. And WI cards are needed to access the shorepower.
