Being a Tuesday we were not surprised to find the harbour relatively empty. However on our return leg it was the opposite...completely full! While the Brandywell Pub/Restaurant may sadly have closed, Cox's in the village is still open as is Harkins, the bistro at the harbour. At time of writing Harkins is closed on Mon and Tues. And the service block at the harbour is one of the cleanest on the system!

  • The village is a short 5min walk from the marina. It is built around the main street and is extremely clean and tidy (likewise the marina!).
  • A wall decorated with hanging baskets...what a lovely touch. The village is beautifully maintained and must surely be in line for a big win in the Tidy Towns competition!
  • The turn off for the public harbour can be seen on the left-hand side of the road. And a real big plus for some boaters will be the superb broadband service...I can vouch for Vodafone ...not sure of the others!
  • One huge benefit for local residents is the mainline station that serves Sligo and Dublin!
  • Alongside the mainline station can be found some remnants of the old small gauge Cavan-Leitrim railway.
  • A 'third class' carriage used on the old Cavan-Leitrim service.
  • A Waterways Ireland workboat about to exit the public harbour.
  • Waterways ireland Sea Rover 21.
  • IWAI members Mike & Helen Kingston on their boat 'Escapade' fresh from their trip on the Royal Canal, the first CIC on that canal. They arrived just at Dromod as we were getting ready to leave so we did not have time for a long chat. Hopefully next time!
  • Wednesday, 29th June, 2011..circa 14.00. We depart Dromod and head for Drumsna.
  • Waterways Ireland's Inis Cealtra at work just outside Dromod. BTW, we encountered at least three different spellings for the name of the village: Dromod, Dromad and Drumud!
