Mary braces herself.

• I have always found it difficult to capture the reality of the state of water on our rivers, lakes and seas!
• Castlebawn in the background as Breakaway begins to turn around for the return leg...and some excitement!
• Looking back...
• The one thing that became very apparent to us as the day progressed was the amount of work invloved in sailing a rag and stick type vessel! And it was, at times, hard work, particulalry when winching was involved. But our man John was not deterred and we provide what assistance we could.
• Still does not adequately capture the sate of the water...
• Here we go....the wind catches the sails and the vessel leans to one side. You think that it must fall over...but that is the magic of sailing....she holds steady even at quite an angle to the water....and she just keeps on going. Exhilarating.
• And it was so damn difficult to take photos....John actually made what turned out to be a very wise suggestion to me before we started...place my camera bag in the sink just inside the cockpit which I did and I then removed my still or camcorder as required and I duly replaced them in the bag when not needed. And so I managed to record approximately 60 photos and some video clips without loss of equipment....or photographer!
• Mary enjoying the exitement!
• John revelling in the moment...
• John about to deliver an oration!
• Looking back across Lough Derg.
• Way to go...
• Fantastic sight! This was one of a number of yachts (many from Garrykenendy) out on the lake and enjoying the conditions. Most returned to their berths as we headed for Dromineer. And indeed the wind had risen as we knew it would. (Thank you Windguru for your usual highly accurate forecasting!)
• Mary wishing her legs were a little longer so that she could brace herself more securely!
• Happy faces everywhere!
• Mary braces herself.
• No...we are not going to keel over...even though it might seem like it!
• Mary's Dubarry shoes promotional shot... :-)
• My head and shoulders were almost parallel with the water when I took this shot!
• Last shot of our most enjoyable trip on Lough Derg with Beakaway and her skipper John Kinsella. And even though the sun was not burnng brightly we learned all about wind burn!

A fabulous few hours and a genuinely exhilarating experience which we will remember for many years to come. Thank you John...and Breakway.
