• Visibility very poor.

 • Heading back to Kilrush...visibility has improved slightly.

Kilrush Marina just before "Arthur" sets off for Dingle.
 • Wow! Would love if the weather outside is as good as that inside the marina!
 • All peace and quiet at 06.30

John Hehir, Manager, Kilrush Marina, bids "Arthur" and her crew safe passage as they set sail for Dingle at 08.30.
 • Mary, doing the ropes in the lock at Kilrush Marina as we get ready to set sail for Dingle.
 • Mary took in the fenders...the weather was exactly as forecasted....little swell, low wind...but we were still in the sheltered part of the estuary.
 • We headed down the estuary towards Carrigaholt...John Hehir had advised us to hold firm when we reached the narrow part of the channel. He indicated that most of those that 'turned back' did so at this point thinking that it would get rougher from here on when in fact it is really only rough at this point because of the narrowness of the channel and that once passed the sea state calms somewhat.

He was right. We steadied our nerves and continued. One question answered.
 • Loop Head in the distance. We are now well committed and making nice progress. There is a gentle swell and, unlike last year, not a sign of 'white horse' in sight. Fingers crossed and gaining in confidence with each metre we travel, we continue on our way....
 • Passing Kerry Head, circa 11.52. All well. Crew in good nick and "Arthur" performing well. So far so good. One certainly misses the company that comes with a CIC!

 • Circa 13.00. We have made a decision...we are continuing past our bolthole...Fenit...and heading for Dingle. This was the point at which we needed to make the decision. Do we continue or do we detour into Fenit. We decided to continue. Well, if the truth be told neither of us actually contemplated the Fenit option. Onwards to Dingle. So far, so good...

By now we have contacted Shannon Coastguard and advised them of our passage plan. We have already heard a Pan-Pan communication on Channel 16 relating to a boat in distress at Hag's Head. Subsequently it transpires that all is well with the stricken small cruiser.

 • Circa 13.50....Smerwick Harbour...It is five and a half hours since we departed Kilrush. Still just a gentle swell exactly as forecasted. And most importantly ...no white horses! GPS has been consistently predicting an ETA at Dingle of 17.50. So only another 4+ hours to go!
 • The 'Three Sisters'

 • Circa 15.10...Looking back at the Three Sisters. Progress seems to be slow. But we are cruising at a steady and very comfortable 7 kts. Blasket Sound coming up just around the corner!!!
