Needed to re-fuel with diesel ahead of next week's trip to GarryKennedy and decided to head to Banagher on Satuday morning.  Headed down to Portumna on Friday evening (so that we would be ready for an early dash to Meelick lock on Saturday morning) and stopped off at Dyson's restaurant for dinner. Wow!. We had a super two course meal with a bottle of wine and I still had change out of €80! Sorry that I did not photograph the starters...

  • A nice table for two upstairs...
  • The two menus.  Note the respective prices. We opted for the €30 2 course dinner and selected West Coast Crab Risotto and Pan Seared Tiger Prawns With White Wine And Garlic Sauce as our starters.  I regret not taking a photo. Presentation was superb and they both tasted divine.  And then it was on to the main courses.
  • 'Surf and Turf'....Fillet Steak and Scallops..each presented on one half of the plate with accompanying sauce...The scallops were superbly tender and served on a bed of flaky pastry. The fillet steak was cooked to taste and surrounded by pepper sauce.
  • A nice supreme of salmon topped with scallops and nestled in a bed of champagne sauce!!! And note the presentation...not that you can eat presentation!  But it does add to the overall enjoyment of the dish...
  • A good selection of veg and potatoes. The cauliflower was particularly noteworthy for its flavour. And all were nice cooked...al dente without being  too hard.

  • Proprietors of Dyson's Restaurant, Portumna......John & Heather Dyson. John is responsible for the cooking and Heather supervises the service in the restaurant.
