Thursday, 28th July, 2011. Kilrush Market. Every Thursday a market takes place in the town square. We bought fresh plaice, smoked salmon, fresh peas, Killshanny cheese, and pear chutney! And no, we did not mix them all together and have dinner!
We depart Kilrush and begin the descent down the estuary. It will take approx 2hrs to get to Kerry Head. As usual, the early part of the journey is very pleasant. And of course as we progress the swell/wave height increases the nearer we get to the mouth of the estuary.
'Sorrento' on the estuary...at first we were not sure of her intentions. She seemed to make several crossings across the width of the estuary and then we were pleased to see her drop anchor. Note the relatively miniscule size of the pilot boat!
Looking back at Kerry Head....As we descended the estuary we could clearly see Kerry Head ....for ages and ages before we eventually came abreast of it and then finally went around it! We joked amongst ourselves at regular intervals....'Kerry Head...and it's still there'!
Mary taking a turn at the helm. On gentle days it is nice to take a turn at the helm...but in heavy seas it can be tough going...particularly if you are heading into the waves/swell. Then it gets demanding and is taxing work. In such circumstances you will sleep soundly that night!
